Dear Brother:

It is with much pleasure that I seat myself to write you a few lines hoping it will find you and your family well as it leaves me and my family at present.

I have not heard from you in a long time until John Geiger came down here.I would like the best in the world to see you all once more but God only knows when that will be but I know it will not be until I can travel without carrying a Passport in my pocket like a Negro.I never have carried one yet and never calculate to.I am getting along finely down here.I have plenty to eat such as Cane Sugar Syrup Potatoes Rice and Bacon.

I want you to move down here when the War is over.I have a good place for you where you can get more Fish than you can distray and raise as many Hogs as you please and Cattle accordingly.I have no news to write you.All is quiet down here. The Yankees came up the River sometime ago but we killed some of them and sent them back!...

Your Affectionate Brother,Edwin King

It was not long after this letter that,Josiah King and his family moved to Hernando County Florida to join his two brothers,Edwin R King and Henry Perry King.As indicated in the letter there was a bountiful supply of food in Hernando County.Because of the War between the States food stuffs had become scarce in the King brother's native Nassau County,Florida.
