Flemington, GA - James Marvin (Jimmy) Floyd, Sr., of Flemington, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at the age of 73. A native and life-long resident of Liberty County, he graduated from Bradwell Institute in 1949 and the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for almost forty years by the Heritage Bank, serving as president and chairman of the board for over two decades. He was also chairman of the board of the bank's holding company, Liberty Shares, Inc., until his death. For most of his life, he was active in community service, serving as a council member for the City of Flemington, a member of the Liberty County Board of Commissioners, which he chaired from 1979 until 1985, a member of the Coastal Area Planning and Development Commission, chairman of the Liberty County Industrial Authority, as well as many other community and governmental organizations. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing Liberty County in the Georgia General Assembly from 1985 through 1995. He was a member, elder, and trustee of the Flemington Presbyterian Church, where he taught youth and adult Sunday school classes for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Carolyn Martin Floyd; a son, James M. (Jim) Floyd, Jr. and his wife, Alicia of Flemington; a daughter, Karen F. Boyer and her husband, Clayton of Richmond Hill; five grandchildren, Meghann Floyd, Nicki B. Davis and her husband, Billy, Ross Floyd, Nicholas Boyer, and Evanne Floyd; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Aleah Davis. He is also survived by his sister, Claire F. Gunter and her husband, Fred, and two brothers, Billy Floyd and Carroll Floyd and his wife, Billie, all of Hinesville.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2006 at Flemington Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Flemington Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the Church Social Hall following the committal service.
