Toy and Dora Maynard
SPARTA--Joint funeral services for Toy Maynard, 81, and his
wife, Dora Burgess Maynard, 74, of Route 1, Sparta, will be held Friday, March 15, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta with Brother Fate Wilson
and Brother Charles Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Maynard died March 13, 1985, in White County Community
Hospital following an extended illness, and Mrs. Maynard died a few hours later in the same hospital, also following an extended illness.
Mr. Maynard was born Nov. 12, 1903, in White County, the son of the late Cam and Margaret Harris Maynard. He was a retired farmer.
Mrs. Maynard was born Jan. 26, 1911, in White County, the
daughter of the late P.W. and Martha Jane Maddux Burgess.
She was a homemaker.
Their family includes two daughters, Mildred Quails and
Helen Williams, both of Sparta; two sons, Floyd Maynard and
Ralph Maynard, both of Indiana; his four sisters, Anita Shoemaker of Sparta, Georgia Johnson, Velma Elrod, and Sarah Nixon, all of Cookeville; her sister, Irene Cope of Georgia; her brother, Simon Burgess of Sparta; and 18
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren .
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Hunter Funeral Home of Sparta is in charge of arrangements.
