Albert Loughridge was just 18, and living in Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. F of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Oct 17, 1861. He was mustered into federal service on Nov 23, 1861.

He became a "Reenlisted Veteran" on Dec 12, 1863.

After the war, he applied for his Civil War pension on June 18, 1907. His application is #1,364,629, and his certificate #1,138,228. After his death, his wife applied for her widow's pension on June 19, 1923. Her application is #1,206,876, and her certificate #937,217.

He was a prominent member of G.A.R. Kirkwood Post (Iowa Post No. 8), Iowa City, Iowa.

Loughridge returned to Mahaska County in Iowa after the war. He enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, and graduated in 1871 with a degree of A.B. He married Elizabeth Griffith in 1874.

A year later the young couple moved to India. For three years they first studied the Indian language, and then became missionaries in India.
*At the age of 16 he enlisted in Co. F, Fourth Iowa Calvary, and served throughout the Civil War.
