U.S. Congressman. He attended the Red Creek and Mexico Academies, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1851 and commenced to practice law in Cleveland, New York. He was Oswego County District Attorney, (1863-70). In 1875, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1879. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he practiced law and engaged in agricultural pursuits, until his death at age 84.
