Passed away peacefully at his residence Nithview Community, New Hamburg on Saturday, August 27, 2011. Ken was born 86 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the son of the late Walter & Selina (Shirk) Shantz.
Loving husband of the late Marie Shantz who predeceased him November 6, 2010. Dear father of Keith Shantz and friend Joy Thorne of Delhi, Anne Shantz & Brian Eckensviller of Waterloo, and Yvonne & Jim Asher of Jacksonville, N.C. Loving grandpa to Nicholas (Tammy), Adam (Tiffany), Lyndsey, Stephanie (Craig), Rachel, Marcus and Layne, and great-grandpa to Cole, Luke, Carter, Lily, & Tessa. He will be sadly missed by his brother Wilber & Kay Shantz of New Hamburg, sisters Jean Culp of Vineland, Joanne Hunsberger of New Hamburg, Katherine Leatherman of Goshen, IN and Beth & Paul Good of New Hamburg. Also remembered by the Cressman Family. Ken was predeceased by brother Clyde Shantz, sister Lorna & David Bergey and brother-in-law George Culp.
Ken was a member of the New Dundee United Brethern In Christ Church, and a former member of the New Dundee Board of Trade. He loved curling, snowmobiling, travelling, woodworking and motorcycles.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial visitation will be held at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Saturday September 3, 2011 from 6-9 p.m.. The funeral service to celebrate Ken's life will be held on Sunday September 4, 2011 at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m.. Inurnment Union Cemetery, New Dundee.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Parkinson Society Canada or Habitat For Humanity would be appreciated by the family.
