FANNIE BOUMA BLANKSMA
Fannie Bouma Blanksma, who farmed with her husband near Manhattan for 25 years, died Thursday at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. She was 88.

She was born in the Netherlands on January 14, 1898, to Peter and Anna Middel Bouma. Her family moved to the United States when she was 7 years old. The family homesteaded near Choteau, where she attended a county school.

She married Renk Blanksma on February 15, 1922, in Choteau. They moved to the Manhattan area in 1925 and farmed there until their retirement in 1950. After retirement they moved to Bozeman. She lived the last six years in the Extended Care Facility at the hospital.

She was a member of the Bozeman Christian Reformed Church.

Her husband; one son, Richard; two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Ann) Van Dyke of Bozeman and Mrs. Bud (Annette) De Boer of Phoenix; one son, Pete Blanksma of Manhattan; two brothers, Herman Bouma of Choteau and John Bouma of Bozeman; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bozeman Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in the Churchill Cemetery. Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

She is born as Fimke Bouma at the country village De Wilp in the western part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen. Her parents are Pieter Bouma (in April 1897 25 y aged) and Antje Middel (in April 1897 19 y), who had in April 1899 and May 1900 two other children in the Friesian eastern municipality Opsterland, Louwe Gerke and Louwe. The former died there in July 1899, three months aged. On 21 February 1905 Fimke (7 y) arrived with her father Pieter Bouma (33 y, labourer), mother Antje (27 y) and brother Louwe (4 y) on the SS Rijndam at New York, Ellis Island. Their last residences in NL was Siegerswoude in municipality of Opsterland and their destination is Roselawn in the northwestern part of Indiana, where Pieter's brother Johan Bouma lives. In 1920 Peter and Annie Bouma lived with their children Fannie (22 y, NL), Louie (19 y, NL), Herman (11 y, Iowa) and John (8 y, Montana) in Teton County, Montana.
