Ray F. Brown, 94, Lexington, died at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2011) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Normal.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lexington, with the Rev. David Bergelin officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Calvert–Johnson & Musselman Funeral Home, Lexington, and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Lexington Ambulance Fund or Lexington Community Center.
Ray was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Saybrook, the son of Lawrence and Agnes Canute Brown. He married Jane C. Clark on Nov. 7, 1941, in Monticello, Mo. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2009.
Surviving are three sons: Larry (Marcia) Brown, Terry (Linette) Brown and Rick Brown, all of Lexington; and six grandchildren: Alex Brown of East Peoria; Amy (Ed Ruppel) Brown of Florissant, Missouri; Dan Brown of Murphysboro; Jennifer Brown of Carbondale; Matt Brown of San Antonio, Texas; and Lisa Brown of Lexington; four sisters: Mabel Farner of Champaign-Urbana; Oleta Hillard of Bloomington; Bernadine Wilson of Des Moines, Iowa; and Ruby Smith of Normal.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Wayne, Ivan and Jerald in infancy.
Ray was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lexington and had attended the former EUB/EUM Church of Lexington.
He entered the Army on April 7, 1941, and served in the 108th Ordnance Company stationed at Camp Forest, Tenn. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was discharged on Oct. 30, 1945.
Ray was a lifelong farmer in the Lexington area.
