Rites Thursday for Ex-Fairland Resident
A Shelby county native, Mrs. Millie Whiteman, 74, wife of James Whiteman, died at her home at 233 E. Jackson St. at 10:30 p.m. yesterday after an illness of about three years.
She was born in Brandywine township and lived most of her life in Fairland, moving to this city about three years ago. Funeral services for Mrs. Whiteman will be conducted at the Ewing Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Josephine B. Huffer officiating. Burial will be in the Fairland cemetery and friends may call the mortuary after 2:00 p. m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Whiteman was born Jan. 5, 1875, the daughter of Solomon and Lydia (Reed) Stewart. She was married to Thomas W. Tillison in 1897, and he preceded her in death in 1936. Mrs and Mrs. Whitman were married in 1947, and he survives with five children from the previous marriage.
They are Mrs. Gladys Mentzer, Mrs. Nellie Hastings and William Tillison, all of Shelbyville. Kenneth Tillison, Shelbyville, RR 3, and Mrs. Ira Cobler of Boggstown. Also surviving are one brother, Riley Stewart of Indianapolis, a sister, Mrs. Maggie Arnold of Fairland, 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nine step-children.
