Carl served as a Corporal & Engineer on C-47A #42-24215, 41st Squadron, 317th Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Lima, Livingston County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 18, 1943 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as a Salespersons and also as being married.

C-47A #42-24215 took off from Dobodura Airfield on a cargo flight to Hollandia, and crashed into the Sarawaget range durng the war.

Carl, along with the rest of the crew, was first declared "Missing In Action" and noted as unrecoverable by the military.

In 2004 the crash site was located and the remains of the entire crew were recovered.

Carl's status was then changed to "Killed In Action" when his remains were recovered.
