Alvin Greiner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Greiner of Marshfield, Wis., formerly of this city (Greenwood, Clark County, Wis.), died last Thursday from scalding.
The details of the accident are as follows.
Alvin Greiner, 24 years old, an employee of the Roddis Co., fell into a vat full of hot water at the factory last Wednesday morning and was so severely scalded that he died early in the morning of the next day.
The vat is used for steaming logs to properly condition them for peeling off the bark and cutting them into veneer. He was in the act of rolling a long into the vat. It appears his spectacles were clouded from the steam of the hot water, which prevented him from seeing the edge of the vat and caused him to get closer to it than he realized, with the result that he accidentally plunged into it. After he came to the surface he yelled for help. Two of his co-workers responded and pulled him out. He was said to have been in the water about five minutes. After his rescue he was taken to the office and later to the hospital. He entered the employ of the company Jan. 20th.
The deceased was born in Theresa, Dodge Co. When nine years old his parents moved to Lomira, later to Greenwood and two years ago moved to Marshfield. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Greiner, 213 North Maple St. Besides them he leaves the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Matt Weber, Rozellville; Mrs. Louis Rach, Stanley, Mrs. Bert Hughes, Stratford; Mrs. Jos. Berres, Edgar, Lydia, Adeline and Edward, Marshfield; and Armond, Edgar.
The funeral was held from St. John's Catholic Church of Marshfield at 9 o'clock last Saturday morning.
