AUGUSTIN CLARK
Who was one of Blair county's oldest best known and most highly esteemed residents, died at his home, 2628 West Chestnut avenue, last night at 11 o'clock of a complication of diseases incident to advanced age. He was born March 27, 1837 in Blair county, and for many years was a prominent figure in the county, being extensively engaged in farming in Freedom township previously to his retirement a few years ago, when he moved to this city. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church of Newry until he moved to Altoona. In politics he was a Democrat, being a leader in civic affairs in Freedom township and was instrumental in having the district divided into two voting precincts a number of years ago. He was at various times school director, road supervisor and tax collector of his township and always took an active part in politics. On August 26, 1863 Augustine went to fight in the Civil War.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Margaret McIntosh Clark and the following children: Mrs. Sadie Stormer of Newry, Michael of North Dakota, Augustine Clark of Pittsburgh, James Clark of Frankstown township, Mrs. Dessa Crom of Wilkinsburg, Mrs. Frank Altenbaugh of Pittsburgh, Martha and John Clark at home, Miss Mary at Washington, D.C., Mrs. Annie George of Newry and William C. Clark of Hollidaysburg. Also by twenty-six grandchildren.
