Burdena Jewell "Meme" Chastain, 80, of Washington Ave., Bedford, died at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Oct. 6, 1930, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Renzo and Myrtle (Inman) Chastain. She was employed at RCA in Bloomington for 42 years and attended the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Beverene Hutton of Newburg; two brothers, Delmar Chastain and wife Marjorie of Bloomington and Donald Lowell Chastain and wife Barbara of Illinois; a sister-in-law, Susie Chastain of Fairfax, Va.; several nieces and nephews including, Jay Rigger and wife Lori of Bedford, Lorrie Carpenter and husband Dave of Williams, Denny and Darrell Hutton, Corliss Chastain, Shannon Tulley, Jeff Chastain, Doug Chastain, Mike Chastain, Brian Chastain, Kelly Chastain, and Brenda Geesey; a great-nephew, Joey Carpenter; and a great-niece, Haleigh Rigger, who called Burdena 'grandma'.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bonita JoEllen Rigger; and a brother, Dellas Chastain.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at the mortuary.
