In the 1930s he was the city of San Angelo light weight boxing champion. In 1937 he was a reserve letterman on the San Angelo High School Bobcat football team.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. When he returned he worked with his father in real estate.
He married Margie Lee Cornelius on May 2, 1947, in San Angelo. Together he and his wife had 3 children: a son and 2 daughters
He was also a Little League football coach and a member of the San Angelo Homebuilders Association. He was in the home building business for 43 years.
