Son of Joseph and Katharine (Ecker) Cortese

During his school years at Central High School in San Angelo, Nean was a letterman on the Bobcat football team. He played the position of running back and was refered to as "swivel-hipped Nehi" He also received the title of "Athlete of the Year"
Lenine was granted a football scholarship to Hardin-Simmons University, which was interrupted by his millitery service.
Lenine was a member of the United Staes Marine Corps and Navy, where his tour of duty was in Saipan and Japan.
He work for a time as a coach and principal at Silverton High School. After this he went to work with his father and brother, Hugo, in the Real Estate and Homebuilding and Insurance business. He was president of the Real Estae board in 1959. He also founded and operated for 18 years, Cortese Flag and Silkscreen.
