William L. Guthrie, 87, a native of Greene County, died at his home in Washington, Pa., Wednesday night, April 24, 1946, at 10:28 p.m., following an illness of one year.

A son of Cephas and Mazie White Guthrie, he was born Sept. 5, 1858, at Kirby, but had resided in the Washington community for the past 43 years. He had led a retired life for the past 20 years. Mr. Guthrie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was twice married. His first wife was Saretta Johns; to this union was born one child, Mrs. Emma Pettit, of Mt. Morris. In 1887 he was married to Tillie Taylor, who survives. To this union were born eight children, seven are living. They are: J. Hagan Guthrie and Anna, wife of Glenn Allum, both of Washington; J. Cephas Guthrie, Louisville, Ky.; Hallie A. Guthrie, of Detroit, Mich.; George Guthrie, of Lake Wales, Fla., Mary M. Guthrie, of Melrose, Mass.; William Guthrie, of Gallion, O.; a foster son, Vernon Guthrie, at home; also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
