He was born July 24, 1898 in Mathias and was a son of the late Bell and Victoria Basore Mathias.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Mathias of Baker, two sons, Herman Mathias of Baker, and Mansfield Mathias of Lanham, Md., a daughter, Reka Slater, of Alexandria, five brothers, Wade and Brown Mathias, both of Mathias, Lee Mathias, of Keyser, W.Va., Nelson Mathias, of Tiffon, Ohio, and Elmer Mathias of Jamestown, N.D., a sister, Mrs. Ollie Henderson of Washington D.C., 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Mathias Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Wendell Mathias.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery at Lost River, W.Va.
