The people of Argyle and vicinity were saddened by the sudden death of Mrs. J.S. Gierhart, which occurred on Saturday evening Dec. 10, 1898. The deceased was a daughter of the late John Armstrong who was a resident of this village for a number of years.
She was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania in Feb. 1842, being nearly 57 years of age at the time of her death. She came with her parents to Wisconsin when a child, and settled in Fayette, and was married to J.S. Gierhart in Oct 1861.
Five children were born to them, four of whom are still living, Will, the younger son lying ill at their home at the time of his mother's death.
Rev. A.C. Vaughan conducted the funeral services in the ME church on Tuesday, and the remains were laid at rest in the village cemetery.
It was a sad funeral indeed. A devoted wife and mother had been suddenly called from earth to the home above and the blow was keen and cutting.
