Effie was the first child born to William Henry Adkins and Elizabeth Ann Williamson in Hopeville, Iowa. They had 11 children and three sons died young. Effie married Emry Freeman on October 16, 1887 in Hopeville, Iowa. The Freeman's moved from Iowa to Brush, Colorado in 1910 and then to Enid, Oklahoma in 1916. Effie was a member of Central Christian Church taking an active part in various church organizations. She was also a member of the Merry Matrons club. Effie and Emry Freeman had two children, Boyd born in 1889 and Bernice born in 1890.
