Dr Venable was born at "Springfield, P.E, County, VA but lived his adult life at "Wheatland" in Mecklenburg County, VA. He married first Elizabeth Davis Coleman & secondly Emily Eaton Carrington (1805-1871), daughter of Gen. George Carrington and Sarah Coles Tucker. He received his A.B. at Hampden-Sydney Coll. in 1811 and took his medical degree from the Univ. of Penn. He and Emily had 9 children.
