Willis was the son of Anderson Jackson Dunavan and Caroline Jane Cravens. He was known as "Boss". He married Zerba Fern McBee on December 19, 1905. They had six children together who were Opal Bertha; Mildred Agnes; Ralph Willis; Iva Estella; Eva Marie; and Betty Lou.

"Poland Road Farmer Dies – Willis Dunavan, Poland Road, farmer who had been seriously ill since the death of his wife in late November, died Saturday at Kankakee. He was 57.

His wife, Mrs. Fern Dunavan was found dead in bed November 20. The couple had been making their home at the Judge Casper Platt farm on Poland Road, near State Line.

Mr. Dunavan was born in Danville Township and had resided in this vicinity all his life. He had been a farmer for many years.

Surviving are six children: Mrs. Opal Jones, Covington; Mrs. Mildred Richards, Mrs. Eva Story and Betty Lou Dunavan, all of Danville. Also surviving are five brothers and three sisters: Fred of Detroit, Ora of Colorado, Albert of California, Arley and Ben of Danville, Mrs. Iva Hughes of Colorado and Eva and Lola of Danville.

The body will be taken to the home of one of the sisters, Mrs. Roy Esworthy, Danville Route 5. Shelby Funeral Home of Covington is in charge of funeral arrangements, which were incomplete Saturday night."
