Ben's obituary read: "BEN DUNAVAN, 53, DANVILLE BUILDER, DIES (April 1946)-Benjamin Dunavan, 53, contractor, of 409 E. 14th Street, died suddenly at 6 P.M. Tuesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage. He had worked Tuesday afternoon at the General Electric Plant and had not complained of feeling ill.
Mr. Dunavan was a resident of Danville all of his life except for several years spent in Colorado prior to 1920 when he returned here. He was born April 6, 1893, in Danville, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson J. Dunavan. He had been a member of the Teamsters and Chauffeurs Union Local 26 for 11 years.
Surviving are the widow, Mary A. Dunavan; a daughter, Mrs. Eunice J. Groner, and a son, Benjamin A. Dunavan, both of Danville; four brothers, Fred Dunavan of Hazel Park, Michigan, Ora Dunavan of LaJunta, Colorado, Arley Dunavan of Oakwood and Albert Dunavan, Los Angeles, California; and three sisters, Iva Hughes, Olney Springs, Colorado, and Elva Dunavan and Lola Esworth, both of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and a brother.
The body was returned to the residence Wednesday afternoon and will remain there until the funeral service at 3:30 P.M. Saturday at the Berhalter Funeral Home. The Rev. Ray Kearney of Macomb will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery."
