Alice Hanks [age 10], a niece of Icy Young, is listed as a boarder in the family home. Alice lost her mother to death in 1914, when she was 5 or 6 years of age. Her father, Thomas Price Hanks, was 72 years old in 1920, so he needed help with her raising.

On Tuesday afternoon at the courthouse in Shelbyville, Miss Dorothy Young of Neoga an d Dewey Werth of Strasburg were united in marriage. The ceremony was performed by Justice of the Peace Kelly in the presence of Miss Ruby Young, sister of the bride, and Elmer Doehring.
Mrs. Werth is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Young, and has spent her entire life in Neoga. Mr. Werth is the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Werth of near Strasburg.
Following the ceremony the newlyweds went to the home of Mr. Werth's parents, where he will assist his father in farming and where they will reside for the present."

The census also tells us Dewey and Dorothy Werth were living in Prairie Township, Shelby County, Illinois with his parents, Theodore and Louise Werth.
The 1940 U.S. Federal Census tells us Dorothy and Dewey Werth were living in Prairie Township, Shelby County, Illinois with his parents, Theodore and Louisa Werth. The census also tells us the Highest Grade Completed by Dorothy was Elementary School, 8th grade.
Dorothy and Dewey Werth lived with his parents until their death, Louisa in 1942 and Theodore in 1945, Shelby County, Illinois.
Dorothy lost her husband in 1961. During July 1961, Dorothy's sister, Ruby Young Checkley, purchased Mrs. Lowmaster's home on Elm Street in Neoga, Cumberland, Illinois, USA for Dorothy to reside near her mother. Guests were: Mrs. Castevens, Mrs. Clara Cornell, Mrs. Corda Blair, Mrs. Jay Keller, Mrs. Rose, Mrs. Minnie Beck, Mrs. Icey Young (mother of Dorothy), Mrs. Herbert Becker, Mrs. Ray Bell, Mrs. Mabel Kimery, Miss Alberta Leader and Mrs. Eva Drusedow.

NEOGA, Ill. - Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Werth, 59, of Neoga, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Pentecostal Church here, with burial in St. Paul Cemetery at Strasburg.
Friends may call at the Swengel funeral home here after 4 p.m. today.
Mrs. Werth died at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday at Mattoon Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Oct. 18.
She was the daughter of Grant and Icy Conley Young. Her husband, Dewey F. Werth, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her mother, Neoga; two brothers, Frank Young, Lincoln, and Grant Young, Jr., Hindsboro; and three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Checkley, Miss Mary Jane Young and Mrs. Virginia Ister, all of Elkhart, Ind.
