Jack Dale was born July 21 1932. On Friday, July the 29th, the microphone was turned off. Jack was a husband, father, granddad and great-granddad. It seems everyone knew him as the voice of the Red Raiders, but his family knew him as being gentle, honest, faithful and loving. His faith in the Lord was his main focus in life. Everyone he came in contact with knew something was different about him, and that difference was his relationship with God. We watched him take care of us and especially his wife as she went to heaven before Jack in February.

His play-by-play announcing for Texas Tech was also a passion of his. He was always professional and never had a bad word to say about a team, coach or player. Jack Dale was known for his signature phrase "jumps, shoots and scores" for Tech basketball. For 50 years his voice was heard giving us pictures in our minds of the games and stadiums and arenas that he worked in. Over the past four months, you could hear him speak of one last thing, and that was, "I probably need to go be with your mother." That is where his heart was, and through this brief illness God heard his prayer and ours and gave mercy.

He is survived by two sons, Steve and David, and their wives Abby and Kim; grandchildren, Stephen, Jared, Lauren and Josh; two brothers, Don and Glen; and two sisters, Pat and Peggy.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Church in Lubbock. A private interment will follow. Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home.
