Henry Farrier was reared a farmer, but early chose the profession of medicine as his life work, and began reading in his leisure hours when working on the farm.
He attended lectures at the University of New York, from which he graduated in 1845. He first located in Pike County, Alabama, where he lived until 1870, when he moved to Texas and settled in Titus, now Morris County, where he has built up a large practice.
Dr. Farrier has been a hard student and stands high in the medical profession. Not only on a professional point of view has Dr. Farrier been successful, but also financially, and he gradually withdrew from the general practice, giving it up to younger men, although he was always ready to give them the benefit of his longer experience, and was valued by them as a counselor in difficult and dangerous cases.
Dr. Farrier was married in 1851 to Sarah A., daughter of William C. Wannamaker, a native of Georgia.
They had seven children--

Pastora
Claudia
Alberta
Frederick W.
Charles N.
and Sallie.
His wife, Sarah, died (prior to 1870) and is buried in Alabama.
The sons are prominent merchants of Omaha. Dr. Farrier is a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows orders.
1860 census, he is listed in Barbour, Alabama with wife, Sarah and children: Ann W., P.A., Claudia, Alberta and Fredrick.
1880 census, he is listed in Morris County, Texas, widowed, children: Charles, 18 and Sallie 16.
