Elijah T. RHODES, died: about 1902. Searching for an obituary for years without success.

Elijah T. Rhodes was born between 1835-1841. Elijah's parents, John and Elizabeth Rhodes, moved from Alabama to Hamilton Co., Texas where they are buried.

The 1860 census shows Elijah, age 19, with parents John and Elizabeth Road (note spelling) in Caneland, Calhoun Co., AL. They lived a few houses away from Sheppard Jenkins where Edna Lavinia lived with her family.

Elijah married Edna Lavinia Jenkins Rhodes. Their children: (1) Elijah Davis Rhodes (m: Mary Breeden-died young and #2 Marietta Thompson), (2) Elizabeth Ammazona (married: John Frank Breeden), (3) Susan Frances "Fannie" (m: Joseph Thacker), (4) Dora (m: George R. Daniel), (5) J. Oscar (m: Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" Haynes), (6) Minnie Bell (#1 Archie Monroe Holley and #2 L.T. Elam), (7) Leona (m: C.J. E.T. Rhodes served in the Civil War, Company E, 22nd Alabama Infantry, CSA. From the enemy lines, a mini ball was fired which struck his head and he suffered from the wound the remainder of his lifetime.

Turkeytown Valley Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans gathered together in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery on Sunday, March 11, 2012 for a memorial ceremony honoring the 17 Civil War veterans buried in the old cemetery. Elijah T. Rhodes was included in the veterans honored.
