.WERNER RITES TO
BE THIS MORNING
________

Requiem high mass for Mrs. Mary Werner, age 87, will be held at nine o'clock this (Friday) morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of which she was a devoted member. The rector, Fr. Clarence Pettit, will be the celebrant.

Interment will be in the city cemetery with Barrett funeral service.
Pallbearers will include the following nephews: Judge Elvis Stahr, Jake Lattus, Philip Mangold, Paul Stahr, Charles F. Stahr and G. B. Mangold.
Mrs. Werner died at 12:10 Wednesday following a lingering illness, at the home of her son, Joe Werner, in Southern Heights where she had lived the past nine years. She had been in the failing health more than two years but had been completely bedfast only about three weeks. Her last time to leave home was on Christmas day when she went to church, one of her greatest pleasures in life.

Mrs. Werner had the misfortune to fall and break her hip twelve years ago and had walked with the aid of crutches since that time but she was always cheerful and sweet and so interested in others that she found little time to complain about her own troubles. When her last illness came upon her she bore it with patience; and fortitude.

She was born at Green Forks, Ind., the daughter of Jacob and Augusta Stahr, who were members of a prominent and enterprising German immigrant family who settle in this community when "Miss Mary" as she was to be affectionately known later, was a child of only three years. Despite her frailty, she outlived all of her brothers and sisters.

She loved her church, her family and her home and always found happiness in doing for others. Until a few weeks ago, it was her custom to telephone family news to The Courier each Monday so that those living away could more easily keep in touch with their loved ones here.

She was the widow of Charles Werner who died 29 years ago last Sunday.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Chris Ledwidge and Mrs. W. E. Caldwell of Hickman and Mrs. Henry Pollock of Centralia, Ill., two sons, Joe Werner of Hickman and Leo Werner of East St. Louis, Ill., 18 grandchildren, one of whom is Brother Camillius of the Order of the Precious Blood, Collegeville, Ind.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
