Walter Ponton Died At Main Street Hospital

Walter Ponton of 120 North Little Street, a driver for the Ben Phillips truck line, passed away Wednesday February 12 at 10:15 p.m. at the Main Street Mercy hospital where he had been a patient since the day before yesterday. His death was caused by an abscess on his lung. He had been seriously ill for the past three weeks.

Mr. Ponton had made his home in Fort Scott for the past eight years. He was born at Concordia, Kansas on September 16, 1896 and was 39 years of age. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Ponton. He was united in marriage on November 15, 1930 at Blue Mound, Kansas to Leona Hill.

Besides his wife and his parents he is survived by twin daughters Ruby and Ruth Ponton of the home and the following step-children: Maurine and Dean Povenmire, of the home, and Dorothy Faye Hill, of Clay Center, Kansas; and the following brothers and sisters: Dick Ponton, of Clay Center, Kansas; Harvey Ponton, of Manhattan, Kansas; and Mrs. Linda Besch, of Junction City, Kansas.
The remains were taken to the Cheney chapel, where they lie in state.
Funeral arrangements will be completed on the arrival of out of town relatives.

(contained this additional information) Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Cheney chapel, conducted by the Rev. T.M. Tucker, pastor of the First Church of God.
Interment will be made at Oak Grove cemetery.
