Her parents were Catherine Brennan and John Roach. John died before 1851, when widowed Catherine and 6 of their 8 children were living in Beckwith, Lanark Twp, Ontario, Canada. The farm next to them belonged to John and Mary (Rice) Brennan.
Catherine soon moved the family to Glenelg Twp in Grey County, across the road from the Brennans who were in Holland Twp. She was on Concession XV, Lot 2.
Mary's husband, John, farmed two lots away from the Roaches in Glenelg, immediately across from Patrick Brennan.
Mary and John had eight known children: Honora, Eugene Owen, Michael, John "Jack", Patrick, Jeremiah, Mary, and Catherine.
