Thomas was baptised at St. Lazarian RC Church in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, Ireland, on 5 May 1844.
His father died before 1851, and the family moved to Ontario in the 1840, living first in Beckwith, Lanark Co., and then moving to Glenelg, Grey Co., where he met his wife to be, Cecelia McGrath.
They moved to Mara township, as did his mother, who died in Jul 1870 in Mara, but whose grave is unknown.
