Son of Isaac and Malinda Armstrong Murphy and twin brother of William Murphy. First wife, Julianna Shilling died in 1886 and they had 10 children. John remarried two years later to Hannah Swab Metcalf and to that union were born four more children. He died in 1907 and is buried here with Julianna Shilling, his first wife.

Memorial presented and maintained in conjunction with Murphy Nation, a multi-generational family history gateway dedicated to celebrating, documenting, preserving and providing increased awareness and access for the Murphy family pioneers of Morgan County, Ohio and their descendants and families.
