Funeral services for Donald J. Van Gorp, 81, who died at the Pella Regional Health Center on February 20, 2001, were held February 23 at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella with Dr. Joseph C. Moravec of First Federated Church in Des Moines officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Pella.

Donald J. Van Gorp, the son of Dirk and Cornelia (Rus) Van Gorp was born July 12, 1919 in Mahaska County. After high school he attended AIB in Des Moines.

He sold real estate and insurance, and developed and sold Hydro Mag Water Conditioners.

Donald served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

On March 1, 1969 he married Virginia Blythe in Yukon, Oklahoma.

He was a member of First Federated Church in Des Moines and a former member of the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and Rotary.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Janet and Allie Van Gorp, and Minnie Dahm.

Memorials may be made for "Light for the Lost".

Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
