Minnie J. Dahm

Services for Minnie Julia Dahm, Glendale, Ariz., and formerly of Pella, who died March 31, 1994 at St. Luke's Hospital in Phoenix, were held April 7 at First Christian Reformed Church. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. J. Mark Beach officiated at the services. Music was provided by Edith Meppelink, organist. Pallbearers were Ralph Hoksbergen, Dennis and Dirk Van Gorp, and John, Lowell, and Dr. James Dahm.

Mrs. Dahm was born Oct. 1, 1906 near Taintor, the daughter of Dirk W. and Cornelia Pieternella Rus Van Gorp. She attended Greely Country Grade School near Oskaloosa, high school in Oskaloosa, and graduated from Pella High School and obtained her B.A. Degree at William Penn College. She held a Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedars and received her archival training at Case Western Reserve University.

Her professional experiences included leaching and librarianship in Pella, Oskaloosa, Evergreen Park, Ill., and Rehoboth, NM. On Dec. 9, 1936, she married Joe J. Dahm at Peoria. They farmed in the Peoria vicinity until 1953. They continued to live in Pella the remainder of their married lifetime with the exception of three years when they lived in Oskaloosa. Following his death in 1968, she moved to Sioux Center where she was an archivist in the Dordt College Archives and Dutch Memorial Collection. She later moved lo Glendale, Ariz.

She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church and had served as church librarian, catechism instructor and society Bible study leader. She served as translator of the 1866-1936 consistory minutes of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Laverne Klingaman; one great-grandson, Shane Barnes; and one sister, Allie. She is survived by one daughter Lavonne M. Heimbaugh of Oskaloosa; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Marian (Janet) Van Gorp, Sr. of Oskaloosa, Cora P. De Ronde of Pella and Mrs. Richard (Wilma) Vander Baan of Whittinsville, Mass; and two brothers, Peter of Pella and Donald of Knoxville. A memorial has been established to the Back to God Hour.
