Phillip A Dalby (Sr) was born in Granville Co, NC on 30th Apr 1808. He was the sixth child of Knight & Nancy Ann Bullock Dalby. Phillip married Mary Womble probably in Bedford Co, Tn before moving to Texas in 1839. He settled on a tract of land a few miles west of Dalby Springs on the edge of Red River Co, Texas. Phillip made a living as a farmer, blacksmith, gunsmith and raising cattle. In 1841, he built a house which is now owned by a great-great grandson Dickie Dalby. A marker was placed on or near this house by the Texas Historical Survey Committee. Phillip Dalby died 27th Dec 1881 and was buried by his mother in the Dalby Springs Cemetery.

Phillip & Mary Womble Dalby were the parents of nine children: (1) James W Dalby was never married, born__ died Apr 1862 in the Battle of Shiloh, Tn. His body was never recovered. (2) Robert Warren 'Bob' Dalby born 10th Nov 1838, died 1 Dec 1923. He married Rebecca Adeline 'Addie' Matthews. (3)Anne Elizabeth Dalby born 1839, died 15 Aug 1899. She was married to Herrod Williams. (4) Mary Frances 'Fannie' Dalby born 22 Mar 1840, died 24 Nov 1877. She first married Frances George 'Frank' Goodman. Second she married Joseph A Miller. (5) John Dalby born abt 1840(10 on 1850 RR Co, Tx census). (6) Martha Jane Dalby born 25th Mar 1844, died 7 Dec 1920. She was the second wife of David Boren Pritchett. (7) Phillip A Dalby Jr born Nov 1845, died after 1910. He married first Mollie Dalby, a daughter of James B & Sarah Dalby. Second he married Beadie H Green. (8) Richard Edward 'Dick' Dalby born Oct 1847, died 11 Feb 1912. First wife was Mary Evelyn Hopper. Second wife was Pleaty Aliza Goodman. Third wife was Gracy Treat. (9) Andrew Jackson Dalby born 20 Oct 1853, died 11 Jan 1907.He married Fannie Aydelott.
