James Cecil Keeling, 84, of Burgin died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at his residence. Born September 16, 1927 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Cecil and Rose Fowler Keeling. James was a retired United States Navy Chief. While serving he received the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was a former television repairman. He was a member or the Burgin Baptist Church where he was a long time greeter, served many years as an election officer and a lifetime member of the Cavite Lodge No. 2, F&AM.


James is survived by one sister: Juanita (Bob) Moss of Harrodsburg, one brother: Curtis (Anna Ruth) Keeling of Burgin and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Burgin Baptist Church with Bro. Carl McCray officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Billy Lucas, Jason Lucas, Daniel Lucas, Lynn Moss, Cecil Keeling and Bill Waggener serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Moss and David Keeling. Visitation will be 12:00 noon until the time of service at the Burgin Baptist Church.
