Anthony Adams, Wadena Pioneer, Dies on Saturday –
Services for Resident of Vicinity Many Years Conducted Wednesday
Another of this community’s pioneers passed away Saturday when death claimed Anthony Adams, 87, after an illness of three weeks due to complications of old age. He died at Wesley hospital at 10 p.m.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 9:30 o’clock in St. Ann’s Catholic church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. Plachts officiating, and interment was in Wadena cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Leo Neuerberg, Joe Goeden, Bernard Neuerberg, Frank Breher, Geo. N. Breher and William Bretz.
Mr. Adams was born in Germany on October 8. 1860, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Baumgart Adams. After immigrating to the United States, he lived for a time at Millerville, this state, where he was married to his surviving wife, Mary Pauley. For many years they lived on a farm in Compton township, near Wadena, and retired 38 years ago to move to town.
While living here he was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic church and of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Besides Mrs. Adams, he is survived by three daughters, who are: Katherine, Mrs. Adolph Bethke, of Bellingham, Washington; Regina, Mrs. Conrad Carlson, of South St. Paul and Rose, Mrs. Lester Lippert, of St. Paul. There are also 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Two daughters and five sons preceded their father in death.
Recitation of the Rosary was conducted by the Lady Foresters and by the men’s organization in the Butturff-Bjerke chapel preceding the funeral services.
