Clyde Irvin Van Hoozen, Sr. May 31, 1934 - June 30, 2011. Clyde was born in Elk City, Oklahoma to Howard and Ruby Van Hoozen on May 31, 1934 and came to California in 1940. He was inducted into the United States Army on May 4, 1954 and was discharged on February 14, 1956. Clyde married his wife Jean on October 4, 1956. He was a loving husband for fifty-five years and was the proud father of five children, Janell Genoud and husband Jake; Donna Berry and husband Phil; Clyde, Jr. and wife Brynda; Judy Michalak and Kelly McDaniel. Clyde has ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. He always had a soft spot in his heart for children. Clyde is also survived by three sisters, Geneva Threlkeld, Genevive Durrett, Fay Meyers and husband Jack. Clyde was a respected roofing contractor for forty years and made many good friends along the way. He was especially fond of Earl and Jimmy Gibbons. Clyde loved to donate his time and labor to Teen Challenge and also the elderly. Clyde, (Dad), instilled in his children the value of life, good work ethics, love and above all, family. He was the only man Mom ever loved. Please join us in celebration of his life. A memorial services will be held Saturday, July 16th, at 10:30a.m. at Jesus Saves Intl. Church, 425 S. Shafter Avenue, Shafter, CA. A private burial services for family will be scheduled at the Veteran's National Cemetery in Arvin, California. www.bakersfield.com/obits
