Oatis Edward Smith, age 73, of Texarkana, Texas, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Smith was born August 2, 1937 in Sipe Springs, Texas and lived in Texarkana since 1967. He was retired from General Telephone Company and a member of Walnut Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Ann Smith of Texarkana, Texas; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Eddie Smith of Texarkana, Texas; Tommy and Cerinia Smith of Texarkana, Texas; four sisters; Cynthia Robertson of Rockdale, Texas; Bertha Nettles of Lubbock, Texas; Bonnie Brookey of Edmond, Oklahoma; Joyce Hunt of Lubbock, Texas; one brother; Dalton Smith of Brownwood, Texas; three grandchildren; Ashley Smith, Amber Smith and Christopher Smith; one great grandson: Karter Pate and a number of other relatives.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 A. M. Friday at Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Gaither and Dr. John Cannon officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
