Officer Robert R. Griner, DSN 4100, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 04/24/1961. After completion of the academy he served in the following districts and divisions throughout his career. They were the 10Th, 8Th, 2Nd Districts, Mobile Reserve, Canine Division, Police Academy, Training Division, and the Mounted Police Unit. During his career Officer Griner was awarded 2 Chief's Letter of Commendation on 12/23/1964, and 06/17/1977 for police work above the call of duty. When Officer Griner retired on 09/20/1993 he had complete 32.41 years of faithful and dedicated service to the department. Officer Griner and his mount "Andy" both retired from the Mounted Police Unit on the same day.

Sadly on 01/18/2009 Robert Griner went out to his barn, shot and killed his horse "Andy" and then turned his gun on himself.

Officer Griner was also a veteran of the United States Army and attained the rank of ARMY SPECIALIST Grade 5, from 01/01/1955 to 02/01/1961.

At the time of his passing there was a direct cremation and his remains were immediately interned at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with out any services.
