Otto John Ludwig was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Burton, Texas and passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in Sugar Land, Texas. Otto graduated from Beasley High School where he played on the basketball team. He served in the US army during WWII in the UK, France, Italy and North Africa. On May 23, 1953, Otto and Meta Hannusch went out on a blind date arranged by mutual friends and were married exactly 5 months later on October 23, 1953, in Houston, Texas. Otto then began rice farming in the Beasley area. The couple later adopted a German child who they named Kevin Chris. After retirement, Otto would be a helping hand and "Mr. Fix-it" to his neighbors and friends; mowing their lawns, feeding their dogs, replacing roofs, loaning tools, and even putting trash cans back where they belonged after pickup while the neighbors were still at work. His pride and joy was growing dewberries on his fence line and then making jelly, pie, and on occasion, wine with the harvested berries. He was also known as an excellent domino player and played to win.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Ludwig; brothers Louis Ludwig of Needville and Reuben Ludwig of Beasley, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers are Gary Slusser, Brent Slusser, Mark Ludwig and Chuck Ludwig.

The family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Otto to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1208 Fifth Street in Rosenberg Texas 77471, or a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
