HUDSON FALLS — Elva Vita Washburn was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011.

She was born on April 30, 1929, to Richard and Orpha Backus, who predeceased her, as well as her twin sister, Elma Vida; sisters: Verna Backus, Doris Manley and Dulcie Knickerbocker, and brothers, Royce and James Backus.

She was a member of New Beginnings Community Church. Her God and her family were her life. She enjoyed playing the piano and the violin, singing, knitting, crocheting, sewing and baking; making every holiday a grand and special family affair.

An inexpressively profound and painful void exists in each of our lives as you remain our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who unconditionally gave your love to, cared for and shared your talents with your most blessed family and friends.

Elva is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Seward W. Washburn, whom she married on Oct. 14, 1950, at the Gospel Lighthouse Church.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gospel Lighthouse Assemblies of God Church on LaCrosse Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Randy Gross, pastor of the New Beginnings Community Church in Queensbury, officiating, and the Rev. Paul Mead, pastor of the Gospel Lighthouse Church, assisting.

Interment will take place at a time to be announced at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Veteran's Cemetery in Stillwater.

Her family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Glens Falls Hospital especially T2.

Family and friends are welcome to Elva's home after internment.

Elva's family suggests that memorial donations in her memory be made to the New Beginnings Community Church, 487 Dix Ave., Queensbury, NY 12804 or C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801 or the charity of one's choice.

Condolences may be e-mailed to [email protected].
