Richard Guy Backus of 296 Sterling Rd. Princeton, Mass., died Tuesday (Aug 5, 1980), in Sterling, Mass.
Mr. Backus was born March 2, 1892 in Putnam, the son of Ernest and Emma (Sinclair) Backus. He was the widower of Orpha (Vaughn) Backus. He was a member of the Seventh day Adventist Church of Sterling.
Survivors are: his wife Merle Backus,; two sons, Royce Backus of Glens Falls and James Backus of Princeton; four daughters, Mrs. Elias (Doris) Manley, Mrs. Seward (Elva) Washburn and Mrs. John (Vera) Rainbow, all of Hudson Falls, and Mrs. Dulcie Knickerbocker of Glens Falls; a brother, Emmett Backus of Putnam; two sisters, Miss Ina Backus and Mrs. John (Effie) Delarm both of Putnam; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday in Moss Street Cemetery, Kingsbury, by the Rev. Lawrence Larson, pastor of Gospel Lighthouse Church of Hudson Falls.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the Queen Chapel, 658 Main St., Lancaster, Mass. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
