Elliott "Melvin" Atterberry, 85, of Rhineland, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico. He was born July 2, 1915 in Portland, to the late Joseph M. and Alda Heying Atterberry. He married Margaret C. Martin on April 18, 1939, in Fulton. She preceded him in death. Survivors include: four sons, Harvie J. Atterberry and William "Mike" E. Atterberry, both of Fulton, Melvin "Martin" Atterberry of Montgomery City and F. Carson Atterberry of Jefferson City; six daughters, Alda A. Jones of New Bloomfield, Mary F. Briscoe of Sturgeon; Wanda F. Baird of Forristell, Martha M. Wyman of Fulton, Mona L. Scott of Jefferson City and Ruby J. Cregar of Buell; one sister, Elva K. Struttman of Rhineland; and 26 grandchildren, numberous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three sisters. Mr. Atterberry was a farmer. Services were Saturday at Toedtmann and Grosse Funeral Home, 1221 Washington St., in Hermann, with the Rev. Dale Morrow officiating. Burial was in the Benskin-Atterberry Cemetery in Rhineland. Visitation was Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
