Silverton ~ Thelma J. (Baller) Scroggins died at Marquis Care at Silver Gardens in Silverton on July 2, 2011. Thelma was born August 12, 1912 in Silverton. She was the third of sixteen children born to Sam and Doris Baller. In 1950 Thelma married Dorsey (Buck) Scroggins. They lived in Portland, Roseburg and Bay City. Upon Buck's death in 1987 Thelma moved back to Silverton. Although Thelma had no children of her own, she enjoyed being involved with her siblings and was delighted with her role as "Auntie Thelma" to many nieces and nephews.
Her interests included gardening, sewing, canning and cooking. She was member of Rebekah Lodge at Silverton United Methodist Church.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 7 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her brother Ralph (Arlene) Baller of Lacey, Wash.; sisters, Virginia Large of Lebanon, Ore., Marian Niemi of Vancouver, Wash., Verda Burr of Guerneville, Calif., and Vera (Wally) Satern of Silverton, Ore. and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thurs., July 7, 2011 at Silverton United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Marquis Care at Silver Gardens Vital Life Foundation. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel.
