One of nine children, she came to Lisbon, Dallas County, Texas, about 1852, with her physician/farmer husband along with her parents, Thomas M and Mary "Polly" Medearis Smith.

She moved to Emma, once the county seat of Crosby County, Texas, with her husband, Dr. David King, where he died.

She lived the end of her life in Lubbock with her daughter, Mary King Crump.
