Victor Kelly Burke
25 January 1935 - 28 February 2011

Born in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County Kansas, Victor Dale Kelly, son of Harry Floyd and Sadie Virginia (Hardin Joseph) Kelly, was adopted on December 8, 1938, by his second cousin, Edward Joseph and Rhea Maxine (Frazier) Burke, following the death of his birth parents in 1936. His adoption is recorded in Montgomery County, Kansas. Through the adoption process, his name was changed to Victor Kelly Burke, dropping his middle name, Dale.

VICTOR KELLY BURKE

U.S. Army veteran Victor K. Burke, 76, passed away February 28, 2011.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and leader in the medical technology field.

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Victor Burke joined the U.S. Army and toured in Korea, France, Pakistan, and the southern United States, retiring in Texas after 20 years of service.

Then, he earned a degree in Accounting from Texas Wesleyn University in Ft. Worth, Texas.

He continued his work in the medical technology field until retirement in the 1990s.

Victor Burke was also well known for his achievements in weight-lifting as a lifelong pursuit. He earned Texas state record titles in the Senior Division in 1996 as well as several regional titles.

Victor Burke is survived by Patricia Ann, wife of 54 years; children Melissa and Luis Heredia of Virginia; Kelly and John Spicer of Texas; Sarah and Tim Scott of Austin; Molly and Mark Valdez of San Antonio; and special friends Roger and Beth Rosas of San Antonio.

Victor's surviving siblings are Vonda Chafins and Patricia and Larry Guggino of New Mexico.

He is preceded in death by Porter, his guide dog; biological parents Sadie and Harry Kelly; and adoptive parents Rhea and Edward Burke.

Victor will be missed by his seven grandchildren.

Services were held in San Antonio at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church with Interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In honor of Victor Burke's pursuits, the family asks that honorariums be made in his name in lieu of flowers to the South Texas Regional Group Blinded Veteran's Association, 6010 Winding Ridge, Wincrest, Texas 78239.
