MAIZE ELSIE SPARKS was born March 8, 1918 in Chelsea, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late William Richard Bullard and Minnie Lee (Grady) Bullard. She was raised and received her education in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

She was united in marriage to Lee L. Sparks on April 6, 1936 in Hartman, Arkansas. Following their marriage, they resided in the communities of Sikeston, Missouri; Fayetteville, Arkansas and Santa Ana, California.

Maize was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, in 1993, after celebrating over fifty-seven years of marriage together. She continued living in Santa Ana, California, until November of 2003, when she moved to Forest Grove, Oregon, to reside with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Rickey Peck.

She worked as a clerk for the Cox manufacturing company, which manufactured motorized toy airplanes for several years, until she retired.

While living in the Santa Ana community, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Santa Ana.

Among her interests were sewing and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Minnie Bullard, and by two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Charles Billstrom, of Westminster, California; and Mary Ann and Rickey Peck, of Forest Grove, Oregon.

Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Laura Billstrom, of Oceanside, California; Christopher Billstrom, of Westminster, California; Joshua Rowland, of Mansfield, Texas; and Justin Rowland, of Eatonville, Washington; five great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in her memory.
