OBITUARY: Frybarger, Samuel L.
Sam was born in Hamilton, Ohio, March 8, 1933 to Mary Frances and Howard Frybarger. He was the youngest of four children, James (deceased) Ardella (Sissy) Cupp of Hamilton Ohio, and Erma Jean Miller (deceased). He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 18 and served several tours of duty in South East Asia including Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand, as well as assignments to Caswell AFB, Limestone, Maine; Ramore Air Force Station, Kirkland Lake, Ontario; Otis AFB, Cape Cod, Massachusetts and McClellan AFB, North Highlands, CA. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1977 from Luke AFB, Phoenix, AZ. After retirement, Sam worked at Lawrence Links Golf Course and McClellan Federal Credit Union. He and his wife, Darlene, moved to the San Diego area in the mid-1980s. While living in Solana Beach he worked for Driver Insurance Company and the Morgan Run Golf Resort where he was Head of the Player Assistants until he passed away at his home on March 31, 2004. He will be deeply and sadly missed by his children: Danielle (Mrs. Marc Peterson) of Diamond Springs, CA; Nicole (Mrs. Alan Lindbom) of Antelope, CA; Michelle Frybarger, of San Diego; and Anthony James (Tony) of Sacramento, as well as his grandchildren Jason Lindbom, Katarina Gomez, Mike Gomez, Tyler Peterson, and his many friends in the Sacramento area most of whom shared his life-long passion for the game of golf. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in the San Diego area with a private military burial at Fort Rosecrans Military Cemetery followed by an open memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m. at the El Camino Memorial Mortuary Encinitas Chapel and a celebration of his life reception at Morgan Run Golf Resort, Rancho Santa Fe, from 3-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 Camino Del Rio North, Ste. 100, San Diego, CA 92108, in Sam's memory (Obituary published in the Sacramento Bee on 4/7/2004).

FRYBARGER, SAM Born March 8, 1933 in Hamilton, Ohio, peacefully passed away after a brief illness on March 31, 2004 at home with his beloved wife and best friend Darlene by his side. Sam will be sadly missed by his wife Darlene; son A.J. of Sacramento; daughters, Michelle of San Diego, Ca.; Nicole of Antelope, Ca.; Danielle of Diamond Springs, Ca.; stepsons Russell and Robert Wilcox both of Colorado, and five beautiful grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ardella (Sissy) Cupp of Hamilton, Ohio, and many other relatives who loved him very much. Sam had a 26-year career in the Air Force and retired from McClellan Air Force Base, Sacramento, Ca., in 1977 as a SMSGT. He was a recipient of The Distinguished Flying Cross. Darlene and Sam moved to San Diego in 1986 for better weather and lots of golf and were residents of Solana Beach, Ca. for nearly 20 years. Sam started his new career in San Diego at Driver Insurance along with his wife, Darlene. That was, until he landed the best job in the world as a ''Course Marshall ' ' and later was promoted to ''Head Player ' s Assistant ' ' at Morgan Run Resort and Club. He gained many friends from both careers and his affiliation with military golfers. He also loved being near the water and dreamed about restoring his 26-foot motorboat. Sam loved very much participating in military social events with his wife, family and friends. A private Interment with military honors will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with his family members present. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at El Camino Memorial Encinitas Chapel, 340 Melrose Avenue, Encinitas, Ca., on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 2 p.m. followed by a ''Celebration of his Life ' ' at 3 p.m. at Morgan Run Resort and Club located at 5690 Cancha de Golf, Rancho Santa Fe, Ca. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Sam ' s memory to the American Cancer Society, 2655 Camino del Rio North, Ste. 100, SD, CA 92108, or the San Diego Brain Tumor Foundation Golf Tournament hosted by Morgan Run Resort & Club on April 26, 2004.
