Mr. Carlos O. Henderson, 83, of Alpharetta, died February 2, 2007. Mr. Henderson volunteered for the United States Army in 1943 and served his country in World War II in France and Germany. He was a charter member of the Alpharetta Lions Club and was active in the Alpharetta Masonic Lodge # 235 F & AM. He served as Mayor of Alpharetta from 1957 to 1964. He was with the United States Post Office serving as Post Master of Alpharetta from 1964 until he retired in 1984. After retirement, he and Ann began a thriving plant business from their home. They rooted plants and sold to developers and many people in the Alpharetta area. The Atlanta Journal/Constitution wrote an article about their plant business which created a lot of good publicity for their business. One of the plants that was very popular was the "trumpet tree".They also grew and sold tomatoes in the summer.
Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ann J. Henderson; daughters, Melba Franklin and her husband, Don of Alpharetta, Linda Eiland and her husband, Roy of McKinney, TX, Monterey Thompson and her husband, Dan of McDonough; son, Mark Hopkins and his wife, Tiersa of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Tori Miller and her husband, Meigs, Trace Major and his wife, Jeni, Terri Flannagan and her husband, Chuck, Nicole Bertram and her husband, Bill, Sheli Upchurch and her husband Robert, Jordan Hopkins, Charles Hopkins, Raleigh Thompson and Meredith Thompson; great-grandchildren, Kyndall and Sterling Miller, Jack Major, Elizabeth and Tinsley Bertram, Coleman Upchurch; sisters, Hazel Smith and her husband, John, Martha Sanders and her husband, Marvin, Mary Crowder and her husband, Jim, Barbara Sullivan and her husband, Johnny; sisters-in-law, Beulah Henderson, Doris Henderson, and Betty Henderson. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Jeff Witcher and Rev. A.B. Hatfield officiating, Interment Green Lawn Cemetery.
