Mrs. Juanita Smith Powell, age 85, died Monday, February 2, 2009, at East Georgia Regional Hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County and retired as assistant banking officer after many years of service with First Bulloch Bank. Mrs. Powell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Statesboro, had served as a Pink Lady with Bulloch Memorial Hospital and a former member of the Pilot Club. She enjoyed cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carlton "J.C." Powell; her daughter, Linda Kingery; and her two brothers, Rufus and Emmitt Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Donnie "Samm" Fusselle, and her husband, Edward Fusselle, of Augusta; her son-in-law, Tommy Kingery, and his wife, Diane Kingery of Statesboro; her sister, Vera Perkins of Savannah; her grandson and his wife, Bryan and Lisa Kingery; her great-granddaughter, Kristin Kingery of Statesboro; and her many friends at Willow Pond.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. William Perry and the Rev. Hubert Tankersley officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

Hodges-Moore Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
